Man swings chair at father after being told off for reciting pre-meal prayer too quickly

KUALA LUMPUR: A 34-year-old man hit his father with a chair after being reprimanded for reciting a pre-breaking fast prayer too quickly.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said the 63-year-old victim and his son were about to have their meal at home in Kajang at 7.45pm.

"The suspect was not satisfied when he was reprimanded by the victim. He swung the dining chair at the victim's head until the leg of the chair broke.

"One of the victim's children then broke up the fight and called the police," he said in a statement today.

Zaid said the suspect was later arrested and police confiscated the dining chair was used to hit the victim.

"An examination found that the victim suffered injuries on the forehead and right palm.

"The case is investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code or 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 2017 where if convicted, a person can be jailed up to a year or fined up to RM2,000 or both," he said.

He said the suspect was brought before the Kajang magistrate's court and remanded for three days until March 27.

Zaid asked people who have information to contact the nearest police station or call the case's investigating officer, Inspector Suresh Krishnan at 017-4333795.
