Bursa Malaysia in red at midday 

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia stayed in the negative territory in the morning trading session following a flat opening. 

At 12.30pm, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was down 0.18 points or 0.01 per cent to 1,444.49 points after trading between 1,438.51 and 1,444.81 levels. 

The broader market saw losers surpassed gainers 545 to 284 while 376 counters remained unchanged. 

A total of 1.94 billion shares changed hands before the bourse paused for midday break. 

Boustead Plantations Bhd (BPlant) was among the most active stocks in the market as it gained 13 sen or 9.49 per cent to RM1.50. 

Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK) shares dropped 54 sen or 2.41 per cent to RM21.86. 

KLK's net profit plunged 84.9 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to RM84.1 million in the third quarter (Q3) ended June 30, 2023 from RM558.27 million. 

This came in the midst of its announcement to buy a 33 per cent state in BPlant for RM1.15 billion from Boustead Holdings Bhd. 

UMW Holdings Bhd and Sime Darby Bhd were among the top gainers in the market. UMW gained 15 sen or 3.25 per cent to RM4.77 while Sime Darby was up nine sen or 4.27 per cent to RM2.20. 

Sime Darby on Thursday proposed to acquire a 61.18 per stake in UMW from Permodalan Nasional Bhd for RM3.57 billion based on a price of RM5 per share. 

Other index were also in the red with FBM 100 dropping 6.97 points or 0.07 per cent to 10,343.12, FBM Ace shed 46.06 points or 0.87 per cent to 5,268.72 and FBM Emas dropped 8.5 points or 0.08 per cent to 10,660.08 points.
